Celebrating 85 years, the international social and cultural sorority’s Houston Council held its Founder’s Day luncheon April 30 at Braeburn Country Club in Houston.

The fourteen Beta Sigma Phi chapters in the Houston Council supported The Arc of Katy by giving of their time to help with Arc socials and craft projects, donating needed supplies and equipment for its Day and Summer Camps and raising needed funds.

Prior to the luncheon the council had raised $11,114 and generous members raised the total to $12,000 for the year. The Houston Council also announced at the luncheon that The Arc of Katy was again selected by its members as the council service project for the 2016-2017 sorority year.

The Triumph Gala is The Arc of Katy’s largest fundraiser and bridges the gap between day camp expenses not covered by tuition, and supports other social programs for participants. It is a celebration of the triumphs of our client population and our supporters, themed around the historic arches erected throughout the world as monuments to great accomplishments. In addition to the recognition of our Gala honorees, Suzanne and Gary Winkler, the special evening offered fine dining, a silent auction and a spirited live auction.

The Arc of Katy is accepting applications for two positions: a full-time day program director and a part-time day program instructor. The Day Program provides organized activity to these community members who are unable to secure a job or have other meaningful activities.

We are also looking for a communications intern to write articles, assist with website content management, update Facebook page, develop and distribute news releases and assist with events.

A tremendous benefit

Having a child with special needs is like being in a fraternity you didn’t elect to join. I am very happy and proud to be a part of the fraternity/community that is The Arc of Katy.

Distinct pleasure

I've had the distinct pleasure of watching The Arc of Katy grow from a small group of parents to a community of family, friends and professionals all with a common interest.
