Gala 2018 – Hometown Heroes Honored Featured

Thank you Katy Community!

What else can we say to the wonderful Katy community that supported The Arc of Katy 2018 Gala!

Your support means more than you'll ever know. The 2018 Annual Gala will go down as the best we've had in numerous ways (i.e., tickets sold, attendance, auction items purchased, etc.); and, your support comes at a time when the organization needed it the most.

Following the flooding from Harvey, we've gone through several big changes which have greatly impacted our operations. For starters, the location we used previously was flooded...so, we had to search for a new location. The good news is we found what we needed - a great new location, at 5819 Tenth Street in Katy. However, the new location comes with expenses we haven't had to incur before - leased space, lease insurance, the physical relocation to the new location, sprucing up the leased space, etc.

There are those who may say, 'wow, the Gala is a case of opportunity meeting need - what a coincidence!' But, I'm not one of those. I'm sure your support of our annual Gala - coming at the critical time we needed it - was no coincidence!

Katy is a wonderful community that loves and cares for its neighbors.

At our annual gala, we were able to honor several of the wonderful people and organizations who make Katy such a special place, including two new awards for Hometown Heroes. If you missed our Gala, here are the honorees we recognized:

  • Bass Pro Shops was honored as a Hometown Hero for its amazing response in the Katy area from flooding due to Harvey.

  • Longtime Katy ISD educator Audrey Bivens was honored as a Hometown Hero for more than 29 years of working with and creating programs for students with special needs.

  • In other awards, Kingsland Baptist Church was awarded the Ann Davis Founder's Award for their support of The Arc of Katy.

  • Last, but certainly not least, Carolyn Kares was recognized as our Volunteer of the Year for her constant support of The Arc of Katy.

A fun and memorable night for all!

As we continue to turn the corner from Harvey and begin planning for the future, we want to thank the Katy community for your overwhelming support of our programs and participants.

Thank you!

A tremendous benefit

Having a child with special needs is like being in a fraternity you didn’t elect to join. I am very happy and proud to be a part of the fraternity/community that is The Arc of Katy.

Distinct pleasure

I've had the distinct pleasure of watching The Arc of Katy grow from a small group of parents to a community of family, friends and professionals all with a common interest.
